Jogless Alert!

I interrupt my blog posts with this important news:

There's a NEW jogless technic.  And I want to share it before I lose it, or you lose it.  It's from TECHknitting, which I have as a favorite blog (to the right), and you can find this fascinating-for-knitters-knitting-in-the-round-with-colors read right HERE (click).

You're welcome!

See for yourself--no jogs
(and yes, you are looking at some
round-ends!)

Two days of sewing

Sewing?  Yes...I remember quite a bit of eye rolling as I mentioned that we were going to a kilt maker... And above, there she is, Marion, helping this man who was patiently enjoying retirement while he fussed and basted dozens of pleats.  There were four other kilt students, sewing real kilts.
She does repairs, and gives lessons.
And amazing colors and designs emerge.

Here's Ella from the Toronto area working on a kilt for daughter who plays the pipes.
Huge expanses of tartans.  A feast of color with a feast of Autumn out the window.
Pattie and I are striving for the cushion covers...that's all we could manage in two days.

Someday, I will finish and show you!

Whale fashion

On our day off, we decided to look for whale.
Woolies underneath this made a toasty time despite being blown to bits and rained on.  No whales, only dolphins.  And here I am making the decision which activity we should choose.
Whale watching or Penis Museum...which would you choose?

Alafoss and Museum

The yarn shop of choice, or so it would seem.  It is the closest to Istex and therefore considered a factory outlet.  In retrospect, it was nice, but best for its setting...a little village.  All of the products are available throughout all of Iceland.  I saw, but didn't buy until my final few minutes in Reykjavik, returning to the very first shop we visited.  I'm always so strong until I'm feeling loss...like getting on an airplane.
Here's the little village of Alafoss.
Then back to the city museum.
And an amusing display of artifacts from the previous century grouped by decades.

Tectonic plates

Yes, a big claim to fame is Iceland's geothermal/volcanic activity caused by bridging the North American plate and the EuroAsian plate.  Seen on a scale as a narrow crack (wth fellow visitors) I was impressed, and buffeted by strong winds, yet again.

And water, moving...
Half a day outside for us knitters, was a stamp of approval for all our knitwear!

Wool factory #1

What a place!  And spotless! ( As I write this 3 weeks/many miles/several wool producers later, I can say those Icelanders are pretty meticulous!)
We heard an introduction and history in the lunchroom with color palette decor....

And marveled at the enormity of being the only wool producer for a nation full of sheep.
This is Istex (Icelandic Textiles).
Photos minus the noise!
